Hi guys,
I noticed that: On Maemo5 (Nokia N900) there is installed the "flasher", some of you know why?
When you wrote "flasher" and you hit enter, are all available flasher options....
I place a screen:

Is ridiculous or not?

I'm pretty sure it's the same basic flasher used to reflash from your computee, but running -on- the n900, for kernel upgrades and such.

The great roby of backupmenu
Bro it can't be because the kernel is flashed throught the kernel-flasher (or something similar... i don't remember)...
Besides this flasher need a usb connection, just like the one used on the pc...

It is indeed for kernel flashes on device (softupd --local & flasher -k image --local -f iirc).
However, since it is the same flasher on PCs compiled for ARM, you can use it to flash other N900s (possibly N8x0s - can't test) from your N900 with h-e-n, hub suggested.

So maybe if we move the binary to a N8x0, we can flash the N900 from his ancestor, right? That could be helpful!

Also, from an environment like the one in Backupmenu (i.e. with rootfs unmounted) we could flash the rootfs from within the same N900, or is it wishful thinking?

NOLO does the flashing, so on-device flashing with that method is a no.
The N8x0s need a recoampiled version, flasher is closed source and I doubt the same libs would work, you could try though

I continue to believe that it is absurd and pointless ... Of course with h-e-n might be feasible to use the flasher, but the flasher is installed from before the release of h-e-n

So... 1 question? Can we enable/disable R&D mode using that built in flasher? Well it doesn't flasher the kernel when you enable R&D right?

I honestly do not know, I just wrote the post for more information ... But apparently no one knows why there is a flasher installed
