Posting this in the event it helps another comics fan...

Upgraded to OS 2007. Installed latest Evince (0.9). Problem: no support for CBZ or CBR. Evince can't see the files in their directory.

Fix was to uninstall 0.9, install the 0.5.2 version from the bgran.net repository mentioned in Riot's post, and then upgrade to 0.9. Works a treat--and this new version is noticeably faster. Thanks, Eduardo! :-)

I can't click on a pdf file and have it opened by evince. The app just starts but does not open my file. Any other sees same behavior??

Yes, same here.

I tried to find a solution to that, but no success yet. I also asked the mailing list and nobody knows.

I don't know where filemanager or opera looks into when it opens a file.

If you deinstall evince, the normal behaviour with the original pdf viewer is reinstalled again.

Very strange all that....

OK, I found a intermediate solution for that.

You need shell access for the following:
Code:
cd /usr/share/applications/hildon
rm evince.hildon.desktop
(or move it somewhere)

finally run:
Code:
update-desktop-database
All must be done as root.

The result will be that you can click on a pdf from opera or filemanager, and the old (!) pdf-viewer will come up again.

Evince is still working and can be started from the menu.

This is not ideal, but despite some hacks I tried with these files, I couldn't get evince to automatically open the files.

You can also edit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache - find the line with
Code:
application/pdf=hildon-evince.hildon.desktop; hildon-osso_pdfviewer.desktop
and change in
Code:
application/pdf=hildon-osso_pdfviewer.desktop

I believe this will be overwritten once "update-mime-database" runs again.

After the firmware upgrade Evince no longer recognizes .cbr files. I tried updating mime-database as described in this thread, but what worked a week ago doesn't work with the new upgrade. Unrar & unzip are installed.

Do as described in this same thread, i.e. rename the evince.hildon.desktop file, and opera will use the default pdf viewer.
