Hi all!

I've been reading some threads about how to connect to a Windows PC over bluetooth and using that Windows PC as a gateway to connecto to the internet.
Am i right to assume that there is no easy way (easy as in no command-line, root access, installing/activating modules, etc) to do this using a normal graphical application? The process should be the same as connecting to a phone or to Wifi. Why is the Bluetooth process so complicated and for Linux specialists only?

Thanks,

Ton.

There are at least two distinct problems/parts:
1) Setting up the Windows PC correctly. I used the instructions on the following page when I set up a Windows XP computer for BT networking with a Palm PDA. The Windows side should be similar: http://www.whizoo.com/bt_setup/
2) The N800 has a wizard that will find a BT device with a Phone profile and do all your setup for you. Unfortunately it doesn't bother with PDA profiles or computer profiles. so you have to do the setup in a more manual, different way.. buuut I think it can be done through the UI (no command line), but I'm not certain. Someone else has done this for sure and will step in here with that information (I hope).

I don't know if you have seen this already, but there's some kind of instructions: Windows bluetooth networking

That should e pretty easy, but I didn't get it to work.. The N800/770 side may be the same though

I have the Windows side working. I've set up the BT Networking, i shared my LAN connection with the Bluetooth Network, by BT network has a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.1. I have the n800 paired with the windows box, but the n800 doesn't know that there is a network connection.

In ifconfig my only network device is the loopback device.

I don't know if this can worked on an N800 since I don't have one, but I've done it with my 770 to connect to my phone since it uses Personal Area Networking rather than DUN profile.

Question for people on Cingular/ATT what data plan are you using? I'm thinking of renewing my contract but I'm confused as to what data plan I should be using to connect my n800 via BT to a 3G BT phone--does it have to be a smartphone?

Ok, so i have the Windows side working. I can connect with hcitool cc MAC to the PC. My bluetoothe icon turns blue on both the Windows machine and the n800. Now what's next? ifconfig still only gives me the loopback device.
