Hi,
Upon receiving my N800 (thanks again to the Maemo team) I've put in my 770 Memory card and when starting the N800 detected the card and proposed me to restore the data from it : I know I should have but I said Yes !!!
Several things went bad And eventually I reflashed the N800 and started from scratch ...

So don't do it you will regret it !

What about emails you have on 770, can those be moved or copied to N800? I have quite a lot those in my 770 and if I move to N800 are those mails going to be only in 770?

Restoring eMail from the N770-backup worked out of the box for me. My N800 came with the latest OS update, maybe that matters.

Mine did too.
And my N800 looked OK after restoring but then I had a few problems :
- the "external" memory card was not recognized
- the device tended to hung or reboot ...

Fred

PS : you can restore by hand : unzip the file email.zip or documents.zip from teh backup directory

Well, I had no memory cards inside while doing this. Also I did not restore everything but do not exactly remember the selection - however "eMail" and "bookmarks" were included, "settings" probably not. There were no problems at all and afterwards everything worked as it should.

Frankly, this is like saying "I bought a Mac with OS X in it and restored my OS 9 backup onto it". :P Makes no sense.

Exactly my thoughts, Kimmoj. Backing up the Data to the MMC within the Nokia 770 and then installing that MMC in a Nokia N800 and restoring the Data ( the ' Backup" of Nokia 770 ) to N800 is simply a " Backward Drawback ".
