downloaded the german dump, unzipped it on my home pc, copied the files to the n900 and it work great. One downside is the map isn't available offline. Having the whole world offline is probably a bit much. But is there a way that when I go to London I can download the London maps beforehand?

a bug I noticed when testing just now is the wikipedia icons don't appear in f.i. London. There are aticles in the dump on f.i. buckingham palace, but the icon isn't shown. For other locations like f.i. Eindhoven and Berlin this works great. is this a bug in the dump or in the program?

furthermore I would like to suggest that the 'home' button in the map viewer automatically zooms in instead of keeping the current zoom level. If you use the function you are probably interested in the immediate surrounding so an automatic zoom would be nice.

Concerning the map, evopedia and maep should share their tiles and tiles once downloaded will stay there, so just viewing the map of some region should download the tiles. Perhaps maep also provides some other mechanism for bulk-downloading tiles for some region.

It is possible that there is a link to a specific spot on the map in an article but this article does not appear as an icon on the map. This is because a bug in the coordinate parser was fixed after the dump was made. Future dumps should not show this behaviour. So it is a bug in the dump that is already fixed in the software ;-) Nevertheless thanks for pointing it out.

I think RDJEHV's proposed behaviour for the home button is better than the current one, so this will be part of the next release. Thank you again.

don't thank me, thank you!
The offline maps work in maep, but they don't seem to work in evopedia. Do you know how many maps (mb) are saved in maep?

I've said all to Evopedia on this thread here. Nothing else to say.
Great app!

The problem could be that since rc2 there is a new entry in the configuration file (~/.evopediarc) that is not automatically added if the file is already there (will be fixed in rc3 / final). It should contain

Code:
maptile_repositories = [OpenStreetMap I|http://tile.openstreetmap.org/%d/%d/%d.png|/home/user/MyDocs/.maps/OpenStreetMap I/|0,OpenStreetMap II|http://tah.openstreetmap.org/Tiles/tile/%d/%d/%d.png|/home/user/MyDocs/.maps/OpenStreetMap II/|0,OpenCycleMap|http://c.andy.sandbox.cloudmade.com/tiles/cycle/%d/%d/%d.png|/home/user/MyDocs/.maps/OpenCycleMap/|0,Public Transport|http://tile.xn--pnvkarte-m4a.de/tilegen/%d/%d/%d.png|/home/user/MyDocs/.maps/Public Transport/|0]
(without line breaks)

You can simply add it (under [evopedia]) or delete the whole file - it should be automatically created in that case.

I don't know if maep imposes a size bound on the tile cache - evopedia does not.

if by crashing you mean a white screen and unable to load any page then yes, I have the same problem. didn't realise this problem could be associated with evopedia.

I don't understand everything you just posted, but will reinstalling evopedia fix the map bug?

Reinstalling release candidate 2 will not fix the problem. The following should fix the problem:

Make sure evopedia is not running by first starting evopedia and then "clicking" on the exit button (door).

Next, open the x terminal and type:

rm .evopediarc

Then start evopedia. You need to select again the directory where you saved the dump.

You can check if it worked if you can choose from more than one map type in the dropdown list in the map view.

I hope it works.
