I was just wondering about, who made the GSM/CDMA/LTE communication protocol stack.(The non-smartphone part)
Making one from scratch is a huge feat for a small company in such a short time. Did they not spent their time with the Sailfish OS, Other-half ideas, and their gesture user interfaces ?

Did they license it from Nokia or Samsung ? or where there other providers ??
Would it be open ??

https://ofono.org

Not sure what they are doing with the lower stack yet.

In the best case, the modem driver which implements the lower stack would be open, in the worst case that driver would be closed.

nobody makes the GSM/CMDA modem from scratch, just like no one makes their own CPUs or GPUs

companies like qualcomm do.

As far as I remember Nokia sold their GSM/LTE modem business to Renesas already years ago.

Maybe so but question was who INVENTED it AFAIK one of them was Nokia. Not apple not qualcom not google...

AFAIK the modem used in N9/N900 is Nokia propiarity and if Jolla is using TI or Intel chip they probadly will use nextgen of that modem (is my guess)
