It's HUGE. Well... potentially.
MS Office on Nokia as an exclusive would have been very interesting, but Office available on both Nokia and Apple? No advantage gained, but certainly much better than not having it at all on Nokia.

so instead of investing in OOo (which would offer the same functionality) they take ms office? - i can only hope this has nothing to do with Maemo.

the fact that i have no interest in running office is irrelevant, the fact that this move will spur platform adoption is something i am deeply grateful for.

Because nobody in the industry wants OpenOffice. They all want MSOffice.
Unfortunately, it sounds like Microsoft are making the same deal to have MS Office on competing devices too so it's a valuable "tick in the box" for Nokia but not something that will differentiate them from everyone else.

I guess that would mean doing it in-house. Instead, MS came to Nokia and made them an offer they couldn't refuse... Development and support taken care of over in Seattle, rather than Helsinki...
