I think its a huge, huge mistake, but we'll see.
No no, it was irony.
I think this means we are going to see Maemo compatible devices from other manufacturers, too, which is a good thing.

BARCELONA—At the Mobile World Congress on Monday, Intel and Nokia on Monday announced that they will merge their Moblin and Maemo platforms into one software platform, dubbed MeeGo.
the big news!!!

Oistano pointed to Nokia's N900, a Linux-based smartphone introduced last year, as an example of devices that would benefit from MeeGo. The N9000 features a 3.5-inch touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, four customizable home screens, and Adobe Flash 9.4 support within the N900 Web browser.
thank god, I just spend 600 on this damn thing, and its not going to be unsupported in a year..

MeeGo will focus on Qt because it "enables app developers to write apps once and then run it in multiple hardware architectures," Oistano said. "It's good to remember that there are already 5,000 companies around the world that have adopted Qt. It's not like it's just starting."
answers that question too.

thanks. we just might see apps for years to come that work with our precious n900s

Nothing have changed. We are still exactly in the same place as we where with Maemo 6. It's up to Nokia if N900 will get update or not.

I wouldn't say exact same place. Its going to support multiple architectures and the n900 was specifically mentioned. Even if its not made official for the n900, I'm sure a port will be make-able and available from the community.

Flash 9.4? Don't Hulu and Youtube require Flash 10.1?

I just got conventional desktop youtube to work on my n900 after reading your post, and before hitting reply.

besides but how hard is it to port flash?, that can be done in software updates. If the n900 gets maemo6/meego, that assures flash updates from now until forever almost.

I understand the nokia community is a tad pessimistic with so many orphaned devices.

This is big for devs, and Nokia's services. Maybe even a return of Ngage as Ovi Gaming embedded in TVs, set top boxes, tablets, phones, and PCs/netbooks.
