i'm still confused with:
1.what is 'hildon-welcome'?
2.how to change the boot animation?
3.can somebody post the complete instructions and whatever things needed to change the boot animation??

1. The program that runs the boot video.

2 & 3. There's a very good tutorial here (but must register to see):

...or if you know some basic linux, it's simpler to just do this:

Use the browser to download the video to the phone.
Become root.
Do a 'cp' command to put the video in:

/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media

Then use vim or your favorite editor to do a quick edit to:

/etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf

Add a line for your new downloaded boot video and just comment out the original 'hands' video. Boom - done! I put claesbas' Maemo flyby video from the beginng of this thread on mine.

Dude, there is a nice app VDVsx made.
just activate the devel program catalogue and search for bootloader.

just installed the update for bootscreen today and now the bootscreen icon has dissappeared from the menu ??? any ideas of how to get it back without uninstalling the app ? anyone ......

I found the answer to this myself...the icon isn't in the > menu > other anymore but in 'Settings'......phewwww
