N900's sip implementation is FOSS, so it would be better to rather update it with opportunistic encryption support and push to CSSU, than write plugins for 3rd party software (considering how nicely vanilla SIP is integrated with addressbook, conversations, etc).

Vanilla is based on Telepathy-sofiasip, which is based on Sofia-SIP.

Telepathy-sofiasip could be upgraded from 0.6.2 to 0.7.1 (unless there are dependency problems? such as having to have old-ish telepathy?). Oh... It was even renamed to telepathy-rakia and reached version 0.99.11.
Implemented o.fd.Tp.Protocol (what is it?) in version 0.7.0.
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/telepath...akia/tree/NEWS

Sofia-SIP could be upgraded from current 1.12.10 version to more recent 1.12.11 (it should be easy, right?). Full set of transports, including both TCP and UDP over either IPv4 or IPv6, is supported. Signaling can be secured with SSL/TLS.
http://sofia-sip.sourceforge.net/

So, first upgrade the Sofia-SIP, then upgrade the telepathy (a lot of bugs should have been fixed by new releases?), then, if encryption is still not supported, push this feature into mainstream telepathy-rakia (or sofia-sip; not sure which package should contain this feature).

Best wishes.

Only slightly off topic but answering a question further back in this thread. I just tried a SIP (ippi) call (video). This is the first time that both ends of the call were using the Jitsi client. The client reported that the connection was encrypted. This was automatic and required no action on my part to set up...
The call was from the UK to Cambodia. Sound & Video were excellent...
Shame there's no Jitsi client for the N900. It's open source will someone with the skills do a build for the N900? Please. I don't have the time/skills... Willing to pay...

Quick reply...
I am not sure about relative pros and cons of OTR-vs-SIPS and ZRTP-vs-TLS encryption. I can only note that 'default' Nokia Sophia SIP supports SIPS and has SRTP in ToDo list: http://sofia-sip.sourceforge.net/refdocs/soa/todo.html
Bumping...
Best wishes.

Although Wikiwide is totally correct in his reply, I'd have to argue in the context of this thread this is still up for debate. As I pointed out already before Skypes own techsupport pages list Symbian and WP7 as the Legacy operating systems to be axed, and there is no mention of discontinuation of support for Nokia N-series phones (Maemo5, 4, ...)

I'm not pointing this out just for arguments sake, but because I'd like to know if anyone has any other information about this. For example I received email from Skype that my desktop client was too old and the support for it was to be axed, so they definitely know which version I'm using, but I havent received any mail from Skype that my mobile client is outdated. Has anyone received mail about their N900, Symbian or WP7 clients?

Someone has posted their email from MS regarding Skype on Symbian somewhere in this forum, but for the life of me I can't find it now.

My other half has received the same email. I have not as I have never had a Symbian device in my life.

{whispering} Got emerg. alt. DID precautions set up ...just in case...and got mah flak jacket and helmet on and am ducked down in mah skypebunker {whispering}

Well...so far...haven't gotten any emails..from the M$ beastie....saying..."Muahaha...we found you little man! and your service is going "POOF!" "...yet...anyway.

The mention that maemo 4/ 5 isn't on the buffet menu ...sounds hopeful.
Let's hope we stay off of old Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum's (the M$ Giant) dinner plate.

So far (to date) skype on my n810's/ n800's are working fine...(knock on wood, cross fingers, throw salt over shoulder and spit three times while holding the whole live lucky rabbit with all his lucky feet)

On WP7 I could understand that but I would find it very creepy to receive email from MSFT about my N900 or Symbian client.

Nokia OVI store care(d) about our privacy right?

Oh- wait , there was that small character line about the event of company being taken over and the subsequent transfer of this personal data ... which we did not fathom to every happen.
