For Excel, there's a better solution than just a viewer: Gnumeric. It reads and writes to XLS format. I don't know about Word.

I own a N800 upgraded with OS2008 and was curious if there are any plans to develop basic file viewers for word or excel, like the pdf viewer already available? Also, will the email program ever have the capability of displaying graphics?
