I just got my copy in the mail today. The article is basically and overview of the device; nothing most of us here don't already know.

But, it's nice to see our little bundle of love get some attention.

They're also behind the times saying it's still on Flash 7. Oh well.

It's about damn time. IMO Linux Journal has paid too little attention to the internet tablets.

Yeah, but that's why good editors tack on an update/errata at the end.

Does anyone know where that line-in is that they are talking about that could be used for recording?

Nice that it's getting more coverage in traditional print media, but that article was horribly written with mistakes and errors - both in facts and grammer - all over the place.
The editors over there must not proofread too much before sending it out to the printers.
I bet the intern there that fetches the coffee in the mornings knows more about the N800 than the "visiting professor" who wrote the article.

And desperately in need of a thorough update following the 4.2007 firmware and associated beta software releases.

An update probably won't happen though, and it's lack lustre reviews such as this (where he writes about as many things which are missing than are present, and doesn't really cover very much at all) that puts as many people off N800s as turns them on...

Reviews usually come early in a products life cycle yet Nokia seem to time the release of goodies mid to late in the lifecycle (same with the 770 and v2 of OS 2006 when most reviews were based on OS 2005 or v1 OS 2006). Even this relatively late review managed to miss the most important update so far in the N800s lifecycle.

Moral? Nokia need to ship their next new device with stable and exciting software and the early reviews will be far more positive. If Nokia continue to ship devices with unstable and frankly unfinished software the reviews will continue to be lack lustre, even scathing.

My guess is he's inaccurately referring to the microphone input on the headphone jack.
