Open? Considering they were reflashed to Android, definitely .
Damaged? Possibly.
Different spec? Considering they were made to Jolla's order, I find that highly unlikely.

It seems more likely that this is some kind of a face saving exercise. Jolla irdered tabs. Factory made tabs. Jolla did not pay for tabs. Factory tries selling them elsewhere. Jolla feels too embarrassed to come back crawling.

Well I can't agree - fact is that nearly everyone who wanted a tablet (and that was a majority) has one already ;-) and as most people are using their tablets for browsing, mail, videos and Skype there is no need for a new device every now and then - all of this can still be done with an iPad 1 ! And if you want to read a lot on the tablet everthing from an iPad 3 (Retina display) will do the job - the only innovation in the market was the introduction of 7" form factor - and the marked share is between iOS and Android and a bit Windows ...

The only point for me to back the Jolla tablet was about Linux and to get rid of the Apple restrictions on the iPad (it was not about the great hardware specs ;-) ) - but by typing this on the iPad Air 1 - I'm actually still satisfied by its form factor, performance and user experience (except of the price factor, the closed OS and the disadvantage of a missing sd slot)

So the only point to sell new tablets to the customers would be something new (or unlikely or just different ;-) ) as a full working Linux device would be - if Jolla abandones this project now I'm sure Ubuntu will be successful - Ubuntu touch is failing as a phone OS but it seems pretty perfect for a tablet ...

So maybe Jolla is right to focus on the phone market as they learned that for a small company it's essential to focus on one thing and better doing that the right way - today they have unsatisfied phone users who have been waiting for more then a year for essential improvements on the OS and unsatisfied tablet backers and pre-orderers who have been waiting nearly a year now for now probably getting their money back till the end of 2016 or will receive a tablet which was produced in such a small number that it's unlikely (c) to get many future improvements on the software side or many apps adapted for its form factor ...

And one last thing - if you ask me the worst thing that could happen would be if Jolla (or SailfishOS) will be bought by any of the big players (even Nokia) it then will just become another OS for the smart TVs, fridges, car entertainment ... - Jolla please keep sailing and keep it small but special - better one new phone every two/three years and loads of improvement on the OS (think about a yearly licence for alien d and exchange and other things for example for monetise the OS) - ports to other devices will also only success with alien, exchange, ...

Well, I am a bit ignorant of the funding aspects, but the initial founders of Jolla have gone quiet. Meanwhile Jolla has received money from investors. Are we still on people-powered direction?

I think Jolla just want out of hardware. It's been a total failure and has nearly bankrupted them. Let someone else take that risk on. The only problem with that is - who is going to actually pay Jolla licence fees to sell a device for them?

I sold my Jolla a few months back. Have they even monetised the store yet?

That is assuming there were more web shoppers than currently available tablets. I have no data (obviously, no one does) but I doubt it.

My calculation goes like this. Assuming 12000 backers, 500 web shoppers, €300 per tablet. Rounded for easier math and illustration. First wave.

1) Current Jolla plan
500 backers get tablets. Jolla pays €0.
11500 backers get 50% refund. Jolla pays 11500 x €150 = €1,725,000
500 web shoppers get 100% refund. Jolla pays 500 x €300 = €150,000
Total cost in the first wave, €1,875,000

2) My suggestion
500 web shoppers get tablets. Jolla pays €0.
12000 backers get 50% refund. Jolla pays 12000 x €150 = €1,800,000.
Total cost in the first wave, €1,800,000

OK so a €75k saving is not that much but there are additional benefits:
* IGG backers would be treated equally
* IGG backers knew (or should have) what they were getting themselves into
* Web shoppers bought their tablets later so for them the HW would be less out of date

That one is easy to answer; Of course they have noting to offer as a swappable.

The next SFOS device is an Intex device, not manufactured/ordered/subcontracted/anyting by Jolla.
How do you suppose they can give to you something not theirs to give?
