Well, I did it!

1. I flashed SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2007.46-3_PR_F5_MR0_ARM image
2. I installed becomeroot_0.1-2_armel.deb
3. I installed libncurses5_5.4-4_armel.deb
4. I installed osso-xterm_0.13_armel.deb

5. I installed SkypeUI directly from AppManager's recent repos.
- Accept the EULA and place the icon to "extras" eg.

6. I downloaded skype_1.7.62.51.1_armel.deb and unPacked it in PC. out came data.tar.gz. Extracting that came out usr/bin/skyhost (1.6MB)

7. I copied this file (skyhost) via USB cable to MMC's root. then unplug.
8. I started X-Term
9. "sudo gainroot"
10. "cp /media/mmc1/skyhost /usr/bin"
11. "chown user:users /usr/bin/skyhost"

* start the Skype.

Works! tested with SkypePC 3.5 to N770 version. ok.

What repositories should be used with OS2007HE?

I realize that you cannot use Chinook, but how to choose between Bora, Gregale and Mistral?

TIA.

(I am sorry if this has been covered before - I did search but came up empty).

Mostly Bora.

However for some software that has CPU optimizations (like mplayer and canola) you should use gregale (Canola repository for the 770 is called mistral nevertheless).

Installed 2007.46-3 yesterday,
- skype works
- flash9 works (not quite well - but it works for some pages without resetting the device)
- mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.18.n770 works

You can upgrade to mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.24.n770, which is more responsive and seldom hangs.

About Skype - there is a thread in this forum about it.
the n770 has hardware to double video, so 400x240 should play nicely, but any other odd resolution won't play back if you try and scale it to full screen. as I understand it, the 770's video bandwidth is actually better than the n800's due to a flaw in the latter's design (not corrected in the n800), so altho' the n800 has more memory and more processing power an d can scale video by non-integer amount, the 770 should under "perfect" conditions keep up.

I might be wrong about all of the above, so please don't shoot m...!bang!

Is there any way to get VLC player to work with N770 Hardware and Official / Hacked OS version to be something?

EDIT; I found this http://www.oliverbrown.me.uk/2007/01...the-nokia-770/

that says with Mplayer it is possible to Stream from VLC server...
Have you anybody got Mplayer on Hacked OS working? Even with Mpeg1 files there is nothing on the screen... black..

I noticed there was a "latest HE" listed as follows on the restricted download page:

SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2008.7-1_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin

I flashed this one and it doesn't seem to work too well. UKMP and Skype don't work? Anyone had luck with this HE version or should I reflash the 46-3?? I also had a difficult time flashing because when you download the flasher and HE file, they have commas in their name which I left out because I didn't notice the commas.......bah!!!!

I installed that, and don't seem to have wireless any more. Is there a more 'known working' version?

I heard the actual truth is the 770 doesn't really have some fancy video doubler acceleration, all it does is change the clocks driving the display so that the picture is doubled.
