After editing some *.desktop files on my N9 (those that were created by the browser) I thought:

Maybe I could create a *.desktop-entry that contains a one-liner to launch the phone application with a specific phone number. This would somehow replace the contact-widgets I have on my Symbian/N900 desktops. I'd associate an icon that shows the person this entry stands for and would happily tap on my Mom's face in the application menu to call her.

The preferred action would be to bring up the phone application and wait for a last single tap for it to really dial the number stored in the desktop file.

Is this possible with Harmattan and all the security thingies in place? I only tried the DBUS method for dialling as documented in the Wiki for the N900, but they don't seem to work any longer.

Any ideas?

Interesting idea....
If AEGIS gets in the way too much (not sure it will)
Then we'll have the option of open-mode soon...
Thanks to the huge positive developments there lately.
Although still some Qns as-to-whether it'll be entirely bump free, even w/open-mode.

We need Queen Beecon Widget equivalent on the N9.
But maybe it should be called Queen Beecon Icon. =P

Something that's almost what I wanted has been added to the Ovi Store:

http://store.ovi.com/content/222418

It doesn't bring up the phone app with a pre-defined number, but only shows the contact... which means you still have to choose the number you want to dial. Anyway, it's as close to perfect as it gets.

Just bought it looks good. Would it maybe be possible to have the app open in the multi task view for quick access to the contacts? i.e.a box full of selected contacts? I Think that if you have too many contacts the app list gets too long and you have to scroll down too much.

Keep up the good work :-)

You would have to click on it and then dial. That seems easy. Maybe I 'll give it a shot
