Huawei is reported to be working on “an alternative mobile operating system”, according to reports. “The team working on the project is based in Scandinavia and includes ex-Nokia employees,” The Information scooped.

Lots of commenters think it's SailfishOS.

Huawei have an office in Sweden, so my guess is that's the 'team based in Scandinavia' they're talking about.

That said, if you've got a group of ex-Nokians building an OS then it makes sense that you'll probably want to use something like Mer to do it. A lot of the stuff in SailfishOS is open and so they don't really need Jolla in order to roll their own UI and Apps on the top of it.

Finland isn't part of Scandinavia.

I own Huawei P8 and they have own chip, which makes it harder to have custom ROMs. I think it's a littble bit stopper here.
As well if they develop own OS it desn't mena it would be hackable and opensource.

Sweet dreams, but they'll never come true considering how hard locked the device is.

Exactly. But let's hope they won't fail to see the niche they can succeed in. 'Cause now everyone does phones which are just the same, nothing new present apart from more megapixels and gigahertzs.
