OK, I'll clarify my take on this.

On SFOS2: I'm using an application and want to lock the device.
  • 1.) I can do swipe-from-side & swipe-from-top
The foreground application is minimized and device is locked
  • 2.) I can push the power button
The foreground application is not minimized and device is locked
  • 3.) I can double-push the power button
The foreground application is not minimized and device is locked for good (needs security code when unlocking)

On SFOS3: I'm using an application and want to lock the device.
  • 1.) I can do swipe-from-top-middle
The foreground application is not minimized and device is locked
  • 2.) I can push the power button
The foreground application is not minimized and device is locked
  • 3.) I can double-push the power button
The foreground application is not minimized and device is locked for good (needs security code when unlocking)

Now the thing is that most of the time I want the foreground application to minimize when I lock the device, not always but most of the time. (navigation comes to mind when I don't want it to minimize)

As SFOS3 provides locking straight from single topswipe, it would be so nice if it also did the minimize at the same time. I can live with locking-by-pushing-powerbutton in thoise cases I want to leave the top application visible...

I just now noticed you actually said

I don't think it ever went to main screen however long you waited, hours, to the next day, ...?
On SFOS2 you always got back the way that top application is visible if you let screen time out or pushed power button to lock it.

I think you forgot:
  • 4.) I can do swipe-from-side & swipe-from-top, like I did in SFOS2
The foreground application is minimized and device is locked

It's an unsolvable mystery to me why on earth would anyone want that, but hey, who am I to judge. To each his own

Yep, true.
Mixed that 1minute with double-tap feature after locking, i.e. after locking and double-tapping within a minute or so it unlocked to the same app.

What does it do if you double-tap and swipe from left to right?

In my case, presents the screen to enter the unlock code

And then goes to the events view, minimising all the apps.

Ah, that seems to be an inconsistency!
1.) If you had no foreground app open (are in main screen), it shows up the notifications screen
2.) If you had a foreground app open, it flashes the notifications screen briefly (~20ms) and immediately scrolls to main screen and then pops up the active application to foreground!

The case 2 sure is a bug!

It would indeed be a bug if it were true. I cannot reproduce it. It always goes to the events/notifications/whateveryouwanttocallit screen.

Well there's one thing you are overlooking here and it is the type-of-device.
I understand you are using sbj1 and I am on xperiax

Curiouser and curiouser!

It seems this bug only manifests when it is the Sailfish Browser that is the foreground application!
If anything else is on foreground, the device behaves nicely and enters right into the events screen!

Not overlooking, omitting deliberately. Because this is such a high level UI thing that if a device type makes a difference then the OS is seriously, totally messed up. I could not believe that Jolla could do that, could they?
