Hi,

Thank you for your message!

We cannot move your license to someone else. The license is per device and per user. Please check the FAQ on https://jolla.com/sailfishx/

What about the phone gets lost or broken? Then can you move the license? If i want to upgrade to a new phone or in the future get a gemini PDA, will i have to buy another license? That is not acceptable in nowadays. Moving the license is simple and easy for you guys. You simply don't show any will to do it

Hi,

Thanks for your message! Yes, there are always exceptions to the policy. If it is stolen or broken, you need to replace with a similar device, e.g. Xperia X -> Xperia X.

The license is per device, so you cannot transfer it later from e.g. Xperia X to Gemini PDA, unfortunately.
Sincerely,
Jolla Customer Care

It does not address the possibility of transferring your license to someone else. I do not know whether it is possible but have a feeling it might not be. Someone please correct me.
You can certainly transfer a Sailfish X license you own to someone elses Jolla account via Jolla support ticket (zendesk).

Did just that ~two weeks ago - transferred one of my licenses to a friend this way. The license was even used before on a phone (which now has a smashed screen). Everything went fine and the license was transferred within a few days."

So - decided to offer my Xperia X for sale:

F5121 Graphite Black; Sl 1302-3093 Rev 4 2G/3G/LTE
In original box with all included accessories (charger, cable etc).
No pictures needed as you can't differentiate it from a new one.

Bootloader is unlocked and Sailfish X installed.
Phone will be in a clean Sailfish "factory reset" state - you can set it up and tie to your Jolla account. According to a thread in together.jolla.com, it is possible to transfer a Sailfish X licence to your account then...
Bonus: 4GB uSD card with SailfishOS installation files and instructions."

Hi,

Thanks for your message!

As said earlier, we revised our license policy, and after the revision took place, it's no longer possible to transfer a license like the example below. Sorry for that!
Sincerely,

Hi again,

This is what is written on https://jolla.com/sailfishx/ under FAQ:

9. Can I move my Sailfish X from my old Xperia X to a new device or do I need to purchase a new license?
The Sailfish X license you’ve bought is meant for one device model, i.e. if you upgrade your hardware to e.g. XA2 in the future you need to purchase a new license. However, if your Xperia X gets broken or is stolen and you want to transfer your license to another Xperia X device (F5121 or F5122) we will transfer it for you.

10. If I buy a used Xperia X device with Sailfish X already installed, can I use it with my own Jolla Account?
You can use the device with Sailfish OS, but without the licensed content. If you want to have the full experience you need to purchase a new license.

Have a nice week!
Sincerely,
Jolla Customer Care

And what about EU regulations about software? Do you follow them correctly?

I believe you can change yous terms and conditions because Jolla will win more with that and it is something that is very easy to do

Conflicting messages or wot?
If true, then it will make me very seriously consider buying any Sailfish license in future.

Very conflicting but they clame to have revised their policys in order to avoid these conflicts. If i new this earlier i might have not achieved a license. I believe they will loose (many more) customers

This certainly fits with Jolla’s ‘make it up as you go along’ policy .

But please remember they are only a start up company , we must give them time .

It is their OS and I'd imagine they can make up a license policy that suits them right.

As for myself, I think it is pretty fair; If you break your device X or sell it to someone else you can transfer your license to another identical device X. That's what you paid for, after all.

Many companies do not allow one to sell a license to someone else or transfer it to another device at all. Of course some do, but that's it; it is the company that decides what are the licensing options.

When I will at some point in the future get another device, of course I will purchase a new SFOS license for it, it's only 50 euros at the moment (and I hope it will not rise too high in the future!)

They cannot make up a license policy that suits them right. That's what EU regulations are made for
If you get tired of Sailfish and want to sell it you should be able to do so. You paid for it
50€ may not be a high price for you but can be for many of us

Hmm, OK; I was not aware that there is EU legislation that enforces a company to make licenses transferrable. Is that a recent addition? Can you point me to the relevant chapters?

If that is the case, then there is no need to argue; just point that out to Jolla and they will change the licensing policy.

I am not denying them the right to set whatever policy suits them. Changing the policy after you bought the product is a bit naughty but, if the lawyers say it's OK, then it's OK.

On the other hand, I reserve my own right to consider buying anything from a company that does that
