Is there a way to do so? By that I mean lock the orientation to landscape mode. I often use my N900 while laying in bed, and certain applications don't have rotation settings to block them from rotating when I don't want them to.

I know I could just open the keyboard, but still, isn't there a hidden preference somewhere?

Go to mce.ini and look for this line:
Modules=display;keypad;vibrator;led;battery;filter-brightness-als;inactivity;alarm;accelerometer;callstate;camera;homekey;audiorouting

Remove the word 'acclerometer' to make it look like this:

Modules=display;vibrator;led;battery;filter-brightness-als;inactivity;alarm;callstate;camera;homekey;audi orouting

Restart the phone.

To return the accelorometer you, go back to mce.ini and re-add the word accelerometer to the line:
e.g

Modules=display;keypad;vibrator;led;battery;filter-brightness-als;inactivity;alarm;accelerometer;callstate;camera;homekey;audiorouting

And restart the device.
