My GTalk doesn't show any contacts online after I login, it gives me an error of can't import contacts.... The only time a contact's status is set to online, away, or busy is when they change their status.

Has anyone encountered this and if so, how do I fix it?

I've got the same issue
Really annoying

The "can't import contact list" message also appears when I start the contact list

Sort of OT but

Mine hasn't worked EVER, between N9 to N9, N9 to mac, N9 to windows + vice versa on all those. At the moment I have it installed, but it doesn't even show the option to video call. Normal call is available but doesn't work..

On topic mine shows online contacts and importing works, but contacting does not

I'm also getting the error "Can't import contacts" whenever I open contacts while logged into either or all of facebook chat, google talk, or my personal jabber server. This started after running tracker-contorl --hard-reset which I really should not have done...

If anyone has any ideas on how to troubleshoot this I'd be greatly appreciative.

Well backup all your accounts' information and delete accounts + internet connections using the following commands in terminal:

Code:
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/http_proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/osso
Do a reboot then add accounts again...

Ok, I tried what you sugguested and it didn't appear to help. What did work was disabling each account, re-enabling them and logging in again. Contacts from each service was then imported. Thanks!

Bumping this one, just to confirm that disabling and re-enabling Google account solves this "Cant import contacts " problem.

I have 3 Google accounts in my N9, only one account was showing this issue since the last few days. Now its all fine.
