when modifying the opera input ini file as per Maemo Wiki " How To" section, do you have root access to do this.

No, you just need xterm to be able to access the file in the hidden folder.

you can also use leafpad for the editing. it's a graphical text editor.

If you want to avoid editing the file on the Nokia then you can copy the input.ini file onto the RS-MMC card with xterm to /media/mmc. If you then connect the Nokia to a PC with the USB cable then you can edit the file on your PC (make a backup first) as the Nokia's memory card shows up as a hard drive. Finally copy back the input.ini to /home/user/.opera.

Having said that, editing the file on the Nokia isn't difficult either...

I think both Linux and Win although I've only tried with WinXP. Through the USB cable it simply works like a memory stick. Judging from the speed of transfer it seems to be a slow USB 1.1 device

never mind, i just did it on the nokia with leafpad. thanks konttori for pointing that out. i ended up not changing the ini file because i just learned that if you just hold down the navigation instead of just pressing it, it would scroll.

now onto my next project, enabling root... and doing the extended memory thing

thanks to all.
