BTW, I don't think the uname info is a reliable indicator of how much "GNU" there is in a given distribution; my N900 doesn't show "GNU/Linux" in its info.

I have custom rom that came with busybox installed. You might try the version by Stericsons. Really increases functionality of terminal.

Also, I'm now rather inclined to think that when GNU/Linux appears the software distributer is just following the licensing protocols and does not indicate what utilities are installed. I used to think it was both.

This following information came with the kernel source I was modifying a while back

Active N900 phone user for a year now and planning to move to one of the following 3:
N900 - exciting low level stuff is worked on that seems to give us an option to have an up-to-date kernel with a more recent software stack.
I have a couple of spare N900's in mint condition so I am ready for the future
Neo900 - depending on final price, product and availability.
Any new phone with keyboard that can run some kind of 'Linux flavour'
