IMO, the only thing unacceptable would be if it couldn't be uninstalled.

I hate the current inwash of proprietary, closed, centralized protocols.

didn't mention any "messaging" app as Love Day's demos were so keen on showing the integration of all "messages" in one view / stream.
can't help feeling that adding distinct messaging apps would kill that "one view / stream" concept :-/
but it presumes some "modules" none the less in order to add protocols.
maybe a construction à la Pidgin?

I really like Nokia Maps and Drive, so I'd like those.
And a browser that supports Video object with support for h264/mpeg4, theora/vorbis and hls streams.

Sorry for going off-topic, but this was standing out.
Let me elaborate.. The reason why I said it's unacceptable because it's ridiculous if it was like Symbian + MeeGo all over again.. If they can bring Skype voice calls there should be the video call capability and not just voice calls..

Also, there's something that you guys keep on forgetting.. If Jolla wants to succeed to appeal to the masses.. Then the device MUST have all those "unnecessary" and "hated" features.. Just because you don't like a feature or don't use it doesn't mean everyone is the same.. Many people use Skype and other similar "unwanted" (by your standards) features...

EDIT: To elaborate even more on Skype video.. Here's a scenario.. In my case for example, I live by myself here in the USA as a student.. My parents are in Jordan, my friends are pretty much everywhere (Jordan, Canada, England, China... etc).. So I like to talk to them and see them via Skype often...

Hi all,
will get around toupdating the list this morning (GMT + 10)

would like to draw your attention to my original post.

PLEASE READ IT

This is not a discussion thread about Skype. Notwithstanding the obvious desire for this application (the reason I added it to the list), I would expect that people here are intelligent and aware enough to recognise both the closed source nature and discretionary control over platform builds that MS has on this app, and refrain form turning this into an argument about why person A wants it over Person B. - if you want to do this, take it to PM.

The intent of this thread is to get input about what poeple (anyone!) would like to see on Sailfish. Different people have different needs and this is an opportunity to express them.

Having said this PLEASE check the existing list to see if your suggestion has already been added.

thanks

For those who have requested a tip/bill splitting app, #ChequeMate has already been ported to SailfishOS
MFaroTusino has been in touch via Twitter to confirm this.
For those with a BB10 device, it is available for download (free) from BlackBerry World.
simple, but great app.

**Note to Devs***
If you see any requests here for apps that you have already built/ported to SailfishOS and you want people to know in advance, feel free to PM me and I will post updates against the relevant requests to let people know what's coming

So what stops you and your parents and friends from using open XMPP/Jingle protocol for that? Your end goal is to have a audio/video call, and not to have a "Skype" call, right? You sound like Skype has no alternatives. Let's take this discussion elsewhere if you want, since it's going too off-topic.

onethreealpha: To add to the functionality:
Feature rich support for codecs in audio and video players:

* Vorbis, Flac, Opus, Speex, Mp3. etc.
* Theora, VP8/9, H.264/5 etc.

applications:

* Not sure if this was mentioned - good sound recording application (which allows saving in any supported codec).
* Good video recording application which allows saving in any supported codec.
