Hi!

I really miss the OS2007 mode where the desktop applets were "locked" in position by default.

In 2008 they are constantly resizable and draggable. i'm forever moving them by mistake. The mere act of selecting an RSS article from the feed reader applet usually causes the applet to fly across the screen. Similar issues for the other applets.

Please someone, give us a "lock desktop" Home menu option.

If anyone wants to get a head start, I found that backing up or setting '~/.osso/hilton-desktop/home-layout.conf' as read-only will lock desktop applets.

Is anyone able to make an applet or addon to do this?

Can anyone verify this?

It doesn't seem to lock the items in place, just prevents the file being written to, so when you reboot they are back in the place they were before, which is a different behaviour but still possibly useful.

See the bug report at https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2639 , comment 41.
This has already been mentioned here by Tim...

This issue will be officially fixed for Fremantle, but not by Nokia for Diablo.

Awesome update in https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2639 . There are now three debs attached which you can install in os2008 (4.2008.36-5 only, I assume), that will add a "drag lock" item to the home screen menu! Just install the three debs and reboot, as per comments 47-50.
