I don't really use e-mail on my N900 (and when I do, I use the web interface anyway), so I would like for modest to not load and eat my resources (according to top, it eats ~11% of my memory). Sometimes it also eats quite a bit of CPU, especially at startup.
I looked in init.d for modest, but couldn't find where it was started. Any idea how I can stop it from loading?

Code:
apt-get remove modest

thanks, but is there any way to just stop it from loading, rather that completely removing it?

I've tried

sudo killall modest
sudo start-stop-daemon --stop --name modest
gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/modest/accounts/AccountID/enabled False
gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /apps/modest/auto_update False
sudo dsmetool -k /usr/bin/modest

It keeps coming back after 1 minute.

It's a stubborn little bugger.

It isn't modest that is stubborn ; rather watchdog who resurrects it.

Two options ; remove modest or go to R & D modest and disable watchdog.

Also, does anyone know the file so that I can have more options on how often it updates?

The shortest available is 5 minutes which is too long for me.

I'm not sure if Maemo 4 2008 has watchdog.
