Mozilla have a new beta release of their mobile based browser Fennec.
If your interested in checking it out here are the install instructions at mozilla. http://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Fennec/Releases

I just installed it, and so far it doesn't seem very stable but it might just be my system. I will do a little trouble shooting and see what I can find.

Proposed GUI for future release...

And a video walk through

Is this for N810 only? I seem to recall something about needing the hardware keyboard.

Supposed GUI doesn't equal what it is. As much as I want yo play with this, the UI is so important to this project that I will have to wait on it. Thanks for this link though; its now a bookmark for me on my N800 Diablo.

Well, the Wiki says "Installing Fennec on Nokia N810" actually. I have an N800, but I downloaded it anyway. It seems that it is not properly set up for the on-screen keyboard to activate when the cursor is placed in a text box. You can open the finger keyboard by pressing the center d-pad button once the cursor is in a text box though.

Also, as crabolsky said, it seems extremely buggy (at least on N800). It just closed on my randomly while I was trying something.

Anyone try it on an N810? Having any better luck?

Awesome!

More mobile interfaces! Hopefully the transition between these states are fast and the browser responsive.

I'm all for this. It it works well, I might install it on my desktop.

The lighter the better.

while it installed flawlessly on my now diablo-based n810, Fennec is crashing after running for more than a minute or so at a time. Not very usable at this point.

Calling it unreliable is charitable in Diablo on the N810. I've got a fairly clean install, stock kernel, minimal apps, and fennec 0.4:
  1. Won't load www.cnn.com without crashing utterly
  2. Will read mozilla.org site for at least a few pages before crashing utterly
  3. Is slower than microb - takes about 50% longer per page
  4. Jump scrolls rather than flows (page scrolls on finger release)
  5. Won't access the ITT forums (home page is ok)

I had about as much luck with their alpha release several months back. This software just isn't ready for the public, and testing it is painfully frustrating.
