I think the current theme that we use (alpha) is not quite pretty, the backgrounds are also not quite large enough for the larger screens.

Wondering if we can make a Maemo Leste theme.

I personally like these two:

http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/maemo-org/
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/M...-theme-marina/

Maybe we can use the Maemo Leste logo for some background, too. But I'm not a good graphics person.

Logo is here: https://maemo-leste.github.io/images/logo.png

So I think we'd want at least a few backgrounds.

Any takers or suggestions?

For me the backround of the icons is a no go. For some reason it makes me feel like I'm using a phone for disabled. I use the Homescreen dockbar to fit in only one window all the apps I use and have disabled other windows. Haven't yet done with a phone stuff where it would be handy running stuff in another window. I bet it is handy, just not for me.

Would also like that as a defauilt all transitions and other fancy stuffs would be disabled and only one window mode enabled. Always have to tweak with older machines before getting unneccessary startups and stuffs away. It would be best to have an easy control panel where you can switch on everything you need instead of switching off everything you don't need.

For me new icons would be great. There used to be for old Nokia phones icon manager where it gave a pixel screen and you could make your own icons and then download them to your phone. I made also custom backround image for my Nokia 3210. It was an online service. I think an app for making icons wouldn't be too difficult to do. There probably is already those kind of apps. Does anyone know any?

About theme: From those two options definately would pick the marina. I would like to see the desktop to be a bit more futuristic than retro. I myself use D-theme SimpleBlackGreen theme. Have never made themes. There is this app theme customizer. Could it be tweaked to work well and have options and easy instructions how to tweak the whole environment just the like you wish? Of course a default theme to be the best choice would be best option.

Also would be nice to have a new boot loading bar instead of those dots which just go back and forth and do not really tell you about how the loading is going. And something else than Nokia hands with that sound.

Hoping also

Digital Nature.

Can't promise any eta.
But i will gladly have a look.
What is the current max screen dimension you are targeting? 1920x1080?
Or better plan square 1920px for landscape switching?

To be honest the default Maemo 5 theme and backgrounds are my favorites. Background can surely be changed to Leste ones, but I've always thought that the alternative themes were missing something. All looking a little to plain or unfinished to me, so I stuck with the default all that time. I remember that there were some nice icon packs, however.

I just hope Leste won't have those new plainish icons which are "pop". Icons and themes should resemble more motherboard and circuits etc. for a device like this. Opinion. One opinion.

I am not against a Leste logo to remind the work the team has done and not forget the fantastic progression it offers.

But I'd keep something approaching the original theme of the N900 not to forget what was "the beast". My English doesn't allow me to express this feeling... when you have sometting oldlooking with modern abilities...kind of vintage and modern mix...

The orange is too irritating to my eyes and like Maemish, the icons with gray bg make me feel that it is a toy or a device for old timers (that we are becoming)

All this talk of themes made me realise I have had the same theme and wallpaper for 8 years now...
After trying alsorts of panoramas and themes from extras early on you soon learn to keep things simple and clean.
Some carbon fibre texture for all the wallpapers (to make continuous textured background), orange theme from digital nature and ubuntu fonts.

People like different views. I could not tolerate your desktop and you probably not mine. We are all different (except the one who said in "Life of Brian" that he is not).

I see your screens...
and self induced epileptic seizures and burnt-toast-smell strokes spring to mind...
damn you guys have completely "busy" wallpapers that do not work well with icons of any kind.
your wallpapers make the "maemo-hallucinatory-squash" coloured wallpaper look bland by compare.
