I wanted to check if another operating systems are somehow better than Maemo Leste for Pinephone.

My opinion might be biased (I like Maemo), so feel free to comment and tell your operating system tests.

1. Manjaro (version that came with phone).

+ Easy install, because was in eMMC already
- Slow, feeling working half speed than Leste
- OS did not feel any easy to use.
- Not supporting Pinephone Keyboard
- no 4G support

2. Postmarket OS (Phosh SD-card-image somewhere 8-2022)

+ 4G worked, when choose from modem settings.
+ preinstalled Firefox
+/- GUI for update, but after update then asking upgrade
- screen keyboard always top, even with Pinephone keyboard
- desktop is harder to use than Maemo
- slower than Maemo, but faster than above Manjaro

3. Postmarket OS (Phosh SD-card-image v22.12 (4-2023))

- just blink desktop and then go black..not usefull at all.

4. Mobian (any version)

- No option to just test from SD, asking install Tow-boot, so I did not test, yet.

5. NuttX RTOS (no usefull release yet (5-2023))

- "But will we see anything when NuttX boots on PinePhone?
Not yet. We'll need to implement the UART Driver for NuttX..." so I did not test.
+ some impressive info pages about PinePhone, example: https://lupyuen.github.io/articles/lte

6. Ubuntu Touch (2022-11-25)

- "The device is not able to perform as a phone. If you need complete calling and cellular data functionalities, consider choosing a different device" ..so I didn't test.

EDIT 05-18:

7. Genode Sculpt (v23.04 (actully the first official PinePhone version))

+ fast to download and put to SD-card (only 20 MB size)
+ fast boot (second boot works, not first)
+ 4G support (SIM pin OK-button, look like not work, but it works)
- manuals says something about storage resize, cannot do like manual says.
- manual says about application download presets, but there is not any.
- only thing I see that 4G connection works is that I get IP-address
- no Pinephone Keyboard support
- only portrait screen
+ looks interesting different than any another PinePhone operating systems.

To be fair for Manjaro I tested more modern kernel version 6.1.28-1 and with KDE Plasma version 5.27.4
+ More usable than older Manjaro I tested.
- If you write wrong SIM-pin, it did not tell that it was wrong.
- Every start it asks the timezone.
- Cellular network settings wasn't so goog than in Postmarket OS.
- Didn't work in vertical.

After these tests, now I can safely say Maemo Leste is the best OS for Pinephone.

Maemo is the best, and 4G calls worked on my side by using Pinephone.

Without the hardware keyboard sxmo (sway) on PostmarketOS is the best way to use the Pinephone as a daily driver from my experience.
