I put my music, took some pictures and added x2 videos, the music player was working fine and pictures showed. Then somehow the device cant 'see' anything, what is going on and how can I restore it? Have I lost my photos?
If I reset how can I restore the device? I did a backup earlier but will a reset delete everything (inc backup?).
Any help would be great, thanks.

Do you have developer mode enabled?

If so, go to terminal and run following to reset the media tracker DB:
Code:
tracker-control --hard-reset

You should have said that this command erase all SMS/MMS, Mails and Contacts, I would have done a Backup before !!!

Edit : Moreover, when you restore a previous backup to get back your contacts, the mess in the music player come back also !!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you reported this "bug"?

I'm sure it would've been ages ago, but it's worthwhile checking the new tracker.
It's unacceptable that this issue is still hanging around from the N900 days.

Be forewarned that a tracker hard reset will lose your contacts, call logs, messages etc...
