A few of the app / utilities I would love to see in the repos once the n900 launches...
  • Ability to sync Google Contact and Calendar with the native applications.
  • Ability to create folders within the Applications folder (e.g Games)
  • Notifications client for social networks (Facebook / Twitter / Flickr / Linkedin etc), something which will notify me that there has been activity on my account and launch browser taking me to the service (More than just an RSS reader...)
  • Easy way of sharing content via WiFi. Run a web server on the device which can dynamically expose Contacts, Calendar, Media via a Webpages (PHP etc).
  • Ability to use device as a WiFi Modem. (e.g. MiFi)
  • Password support for Alphanumeric passwords

  • 3rd party community maybe. AFAIK not out of the box, not officially.

3rd party its possible to run a web server like Lighttpd or Apache. I don't think out of the box. The PHP frontends you mention don't exist either, and this all would lag the device, as in: why not let something else do the syncing, instead only offer the data?

  • BlueTooth DUN is supported 3rd party (not out of the box). See also e.g. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=314240

  • Password support for Alphanumeric passwords
  • For WiFi or IMAP or...? Works right now. Why would this not work?

Who should we hand it to, then?

Works fine with "Mail for Exchange" aka. ActiveSync. Check out http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html

Edit: (I.e. it works out of the box, you just need to configure it based on the S60 instructions from Google)

Wifi sharing - think AirSharing on the iPhone, but better
    Skype with video
Unity3D support - games or web client
    Nimbuzz
VLC - a proper release... I HATE having to resample/convert video

And I fully support the prior Evernote request.

Now... I have more, but they mostly come from my use with my iPhone.

On the N810, I use Fring. If it also makes its way to the N900, I'd use it there too, personally.

Nimbuzz never got ported - and I'm personally not a fan of the web version via Maemo's browser. But lately, I've been using Nimbuzz via the iPhone and I know it would be better on Maemo 5 if done well.
