Would it be acceptable with 1000 car accidents if it would reduce it from 40000 today. Would you gamble?

We are using simple algorithms currently, machine learning and for many years to come

As has been explained at great length in a number of papers and findings already over the past decades...
The curve for intelligence with AI ...
regardless whether it be GI general intelligence or SI super intelligence ...the curve is always an
expontential one.
Few really "get" it ..
The best example is the "lake Michigan" parallel
If said lake volume of water were akin to a glass being filled...or the achievement upon filling of SI.
The time it takes is the issue.
The advancement curve being exponential.
If one could empty the lake.
And take a drop of water and put it in the empty lake bed...then a few years later 2 drops more.
Then 4 drops more a few years later.
Then 16 drops more a few years less later...
Then..you get the parallel to SI advancement in time taken.
Not bothering to copy paste the verbatim of the formula.
The time it has taken to advance and fill the "lake" which iis the achievement to SI ...Currently we have filled to date a little less than 1/4 of the lake ...over the last 50 years...it is the last 2 decades that has seen a noticeable increase in that "lake" level of achievement ...and more so the last 10 and 5 years...
Now...timeline wise...
The lake will come to full capacity in a very short span of time...it will be full "overnight" and SI ...will be achieved at monsterous speed.
Taking everyone quite unawares .
Since exponential filling of the "lake" of Intelligence advancement isn't based on a static timescale...but the time between fillings of the lake shortens equally so ...exponentially.

In other words ...
By the time we realize we should be turning off "the tap" ...or turning to run...
It will have been equally far far too late.
