Just reading the engadget live-ticker of the nokia event.

From a business perspective this cooperation makes more sense to me now. Essentially Nokia wants money, money from advertising, similar to google. Nokia will provide location-based services (and others?) which will be used by all OEMs. So Nokia is part of a much bigger ecosystem than it could provide itself.

The target is clearly google, more so than apple.

I think this is the most interesting point:

We are contributing a variety of services to Windows Phone that will be available to OEMs including Nokia
The question of course how relevant those services will be in the whole ecosystem. And as those services will be associated with microsoft, I don't know if that helps their brand.

But it seems they will earn money not only with their own wp7 devices.

One thing is for sure, wp7 will do better than meego in the north american market and when it comes to business users.

Exactly. Now i'm starting to get what the special treatment was for Nokia, not that it helps any of us MeeGo lovers.

LOL, well I still think meego would have been the better OS.

But lets face some facts here. At some points this whole apps ******** will be over. Everything will be HTML5, so your own developer tools are not that important anymore.

What matters are all the services you provide, and the hardware. So focusing on those two is important.

I just fear that Nokia will loose lots of brand value.
