Apple has always been a low volume, high margin producer. Even with their low volume they scrape off a large fraction of all profit made from mobile phones (http://fortune.com/2016/11/04/apple-smartphone-profits/). I agree that Apple hasn't done anything exciting since Jobs' death, and I think Tim Cook has all the imagination of a sea cucumber, but iOS is a long, long way from dying out.

If iOS were to fade away, why do you think Tizen would be successful, rather than Windoze Mobile (or whatever the hell they call it this week)? Tizen is clearly Samsung's baby, why would other manufacturers jump aboard? Microsoft would probably be happy to provide its OS to manufacturers without competing with them in the hardware sector.

Tizen will never be THE competitor to Windows...or Ios...or Android....they will always be relegated to a position behind the leader....far behind....
It is the nature of the market.
Even though a major corp is behind tizen...
It is too alien for the public at this point...possibly for a long time to come.
Toe to toe...
whatever is going to contend with the industry leaders...
MUST look and perform (at least on the surface) just like the competitors...otherwise the public will not glam to it..
too radically a change from the offered norm will not fly.

line up home screen shots of out of the box android, ios, and wp ..
and there really isn't a lot of differences with what you are looking at...
They all scream they are offering a unique experience while selling the exact same thing as the other..
I don't think it is even a good sales pitch frankly...

And if somebody like Jolla really did come up with a UI innovation that was clearly superior and embraced by consumers, then Adroid+iOS+Windoze would just copy it, patents be damned.

what we need to do is dress the wolf up in sheep's clothing.
Make it a wicked and complex hacking device ...sure...

Just don't tell the public.

...Also it should appear hobbled...
Code:
Android apps rumoured not always supported...
In fact....whatever is done...
DON'T call it linux...
like android has done....
at best call it ...
.
Code:
 DebWin7

or (maybe, please throw no rocks)
Code:
 iFaceBerry

Code:
 WinDruid

(there exist global experts at coming up with cheesy names in HK)

As well it should have issues ...bugs...etc...
just like ios and windows...
.
Code:
Libreoffice always has some formatting glitch...
.

Also create an over exaggerated amount of publicized hype about just "how great" something or other is about it..
Code:
full permanent license Office - complete suite preinstalled
full permanent license Linphone preinstalled - free phone calls
full permanent license AntiVirus protection security preinstalled

Finally ...just as android has a "developer mode"
I think utilizing such a concept ...
that with a very deliberate and hidden sequence of password commands...
Code:
sudo-gainroot-maemo
said perfect bland linux contender to fight on par with the other "Pablum Phones" ...transforms ...unlocks ...and voila!
the facade drops away to reveal a wicked linux hacker phone that simply cannot be compared to.

And so the grand game of handheld devices is played and won utilizing mimicry and camouflage...

... change the rules of engagement.

Tizen will grow fast, but Android will remain dominant

The future is bright my friends, at least more bright than it is Sailfish or Windows Phone

I agree. I don't see the allure in Tizen either, no matter that it's built upon Linux. To me it just seems horrible platform. My opinion might be based on old information, but I haven't heard anything that would have changed my mind since it initially came out.

EFL is optional. You can utilize other APIs. QT, Clutter, or GTK etc. can probably be used it's just that the Tizen developers didn't put the effort to add it. Tizen being a full GNU Linux system with Wayland can utilize any APIs that Wayland has access to. To my knowledge there is a community qt port to Tizen. Most likely the application would just bundle the libraries and share them with other applications that use w particular library

Are you sure about that? This seems to point to a different thought.

There was a time I used enlightenment as my desktop UI but that was a long long time ago, when the alternative was mwm IIRC.

It was quite OK then but time has passed by and alternatives have gained while e has gone nowhere really.

That's pretty much wht I think Tizen is like, really. Too little, too late.

hahaaha
perfect!
theonelaw's breakdown of my "Bizzaro World" logic on how to sneakily get Linux handheld to become the mainstream point man...is perfect.

Windruid ....like that name...

And juice ...
y'know I was thinking of "e" during all the talking ...
I liked 16 ...and 17 ...
went back to "e" not long ago enjoyed it..
but there was some itch it didn't quite scratch...again..
...not quite sure what to make of more recent versions yet...
can't say I love them...

The last few years now ...
I have been going back to basics ...
windowmaker...
...icewm and fvwm and their deriv's...like crystal...and such...
and I have been finding I enjoy and appreciate them more than ever ...with their flexibility and simplicity ..

One distro which has me mucking about now and again ..
is BBQ linux....
just to "feel" my way around all the various enviro's ...
see which combinations hit my sweet tooth...
