I have for a very long time wished for a GUI where an image of the contact that sent you the message popped up. Well now Motorolas new MotorBlur has that feature.

Any chance anyone will make something like that for the N900 and forfill my wish?
Here is a quick mock-up render I made.

Image is taken from the contact info and the message text is displayed bellow.

yeah the concept is good, grab mauku, that does similar but in list format
users head, message

i know thats not the intention, you want it like real heads and stuff

i even saw a desktop widget just this evening on some video or other which showed new sms message on the desktop.

however, there is problem

you cannot dynamically add/remove widgets from the desktop. (*that I know in a configurable none overlapping manner)
so as new people call you cannot add new heads, or you end up with a massive blank space taking up all the room when you have none.

if i were thinking of this within liqbase i would just resize what is there and let a new head jostle onto the screen and resize/move the others till it fitted
maybe fade and shrink the older heads
(get original liqbase and see the physics view to get an idea of what i mean )

Thanks for the replies
I will add this to the brainstorming thread as well.

I did not know about mauku. I guess that's a start.

How open is the maemo system? I thought it was 80% open and that you could create applications that run seamlessly over the normal OS.

I can see how making this as an widget will present problems, But if it's an app that always run in the background and then pounce into action when a Message is received we should be able to have something like the concept.

I am no programmer, So I'm clueless. But any theory's are welcome

That's the way to go. It would have to have it's own full screen application, perhaps masquerading as a desktop screen by copying the same background on the fly.
