I recommend you put the motherboard of, at least, the chinese copy in the oven.
Your SIM will work after 8 minutes at 220 degrees celsius. I have confirmed this working with two phones now.

Be careful, the plastic keyboard and plastic wrapper around camera will melt a bit if you go for too long. You could try below 125 degrees celsius, it might not be damaging to soft plastics.

Using heat gun could be a cleaner solution, but this works for me.
I have now saved two 'dead' N900s this way.
No temporary replacement, but temporary moments of suspense followed by a permanently working phone
