I could be wrong but I think it's a bit early to expect a new tablet already.

Here's the release schedule of previous tablets so you see what I mean:

Late 2005: Nokia 770
Early 2007: Nokia N800
Late 2007: Nokia N810

In other words there seems to be a gap of about one year between tablets. The N810 only arrived a few months ago.

What MIGHT happen is we get a variation on the N810 which uses Wimax, but that would probably be pretty much the same tablet otherwise.

Well, we know WiMAX is coming within the next couple months, but the problem with your timetable is that the N810 definitely wasn't an upgrade to the N800, and the WiMAX tablet wont be, either.

So, truthfully, we're actually due for a generational upgrade right now. I, personally, hope we get it before summer so all those N810 owners can feel stupid for buying it as an "upgrade" over the N800. But there's no way it's coming before Q3.

I'm pretty sure the WiMAX tablet will be an N810 or N800 derivative, as you suggest; Texrat has come as close to saying that as he ever does anything. Besides, it's supposed to be software compatible, as someone spotted something in some changelog regarding RX-48 specific code added. IIRC, it was disabling the "Now connect your phone" step during initial setup, for RX-48 hardware only.

Early or late, though, the WiMAX is only based on one of the existing N8x0s, at best; not the same hardware with an updated firmware. That means that it's been taking time from their hardware people, and a pre-summer launch of the next (presumptively named
N900) generation of tablets seems pretty unlikely from here.

Rumor says April 1st for the Wimax N810. But since that is April Fool's Day take it with a grain of salt

I think we'll see the N900 series sometime in the fall. i.e. FCC stuff in September and release near Thanksgiving in the US. Since the N900 series should be the "consumer" device you would imagine they would want to capitalize on the Christmas buying season. Also that would put it a year after the N810 introduction.

It's been widely discounted. At least, the caption on that image is "N810". See various threads here by searching for "N830".
