Apple and Archos have had little to no competition for years in terms of Wifi only smart devices that don't require being chained to a 3,000 dollar contract (bear in mind I'm speaking of US pricing). I thought the Dell Streak was an Archos 5 replacement, but unfortunately it requires an expensive contract so to me it was no replacement. Unfortunately its the typical no word on release date or pricing dealio. On the 4.0 inch device the differences between it and the regular Galaxy S are a 3.2mp camera instead of a 5.0mp camera, 1200mah battery instead of 1500mah batter, lack of gsm or cdma module, and a super clear LCD instead of a Super Amoled. The 5.0 inch device has 5.0mp camera, 2200mah battery, and super clear LCD as well. Both devices have GPS, 512mb of ram, options of 8gb, 16gb, or 32gb plus microsd expansion, Bluetooth 3.0, 1ghz hummingbird processor, Front facing camera, and a removable battery something that I wanted out of the iPod Touch and Archos devices. If these devices are reasonably priced then I would definitely use them to replace my Archos 5 and Nokia n810. Well the most important thing about this is that wifi only PDA type devices are starting to be competitive again.

This device only more solidifies Samsung's dominance and the fall of Nokia.

Assuming Archos 43 gets an Android upgrade, why should the Samsung little tablets doom it?

Did the Archos 5it or Archos 7 home tablet receive froyo and Archos has made no promises about gingerbread on any of their devices.

I think Railroad also forgot to mention the fact that they have GPS makes them VERY competitive on the wifi-only market against Archos (and other wifi-only Android devices), whose newer Android devices are no longer coming with GPS. Kudos to Samsung for that... but I'm also with pasih, in that I have yet to see Samsung really go out of their way to upgrade their devices. The Samsung Fascinate only JUST got their first upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 after much rage and protest from many customers and bad press. I'd like to see more openness and/or more support from Samsung before I can throw all my weight behind their brand to recommend them to anyone else.
