I hate to be the one to tell you - but your talking out of your arse all over the forum! Devices do FINE without any 3D acceleration driver, with regards to web surfing. In fact adding a 3D acceleration driver would help very little, if at all.

You should see what I said clear.

What I said is hardware accelerator driver which include 2d and 3d accelerator. 2d acceleration driver have big effect for web surfing and web page render. That's why all ARM cpu don't have good performance now for web usage under linux.

What are you talking about?! Practically every smartphone out there is ARM based device. Qualcomm, Marvell, TI, all use ARM as their core processors. I don't see that much of a problem in case of web rendering for most of these devices.

The only thing I can imagine he's referring to is flash performance (as in on ARM Flash does not (yet) use specific HW acceleration).

Or things like kinetic scrolling, where performance could be ... better.

I wondered whether there would be some possibility that the n800 accelerated driver could be a subset of a GMA500 driver.

I bring this up because there are a lot of people who want a solid driver for GMA500 and are reliant on the 3rd party drivers commissioned by Intel:

To those who think it's not needed: my fujitsu u2010 (u820 variant) has GMA500 and I can tell you that accelerated video make a huge difference, even simple things like switching apps becomes relatively instant.

Although there was a glimmer of hope back in november

there's not been too much recent news, although Intel do seem to be keeping the product page going:

Well, could be, but flash can hardly qualify as web rendering imho.

All these device which have good performance in web rendering have hardware acceleration but driver used for GPU acceleration is all closed source.

iPhone and Android device or N900 have good web rendering but Linux don't because there are no GPU hardware acceleration driver is available for linux.

All GPU from PowerVR don't have open source driver including GMA500(SGX535) which have driver in linux but source code is closed.

Again, not web rendering... But don't complain about it on my N810 (where it is implemented, ie. Canola2).
