OK - I am a total n00b at all of this. I have installed Python 2.5 (I think) as well as wget. When I install gpodder, it looks as though everything works fine and I have an icon to launch it, but when I tap it, it does nothing. I have tried rebooting, and get the same result. I am doing something blatently wrong?

Please help!

Launch terminal and try to run gpodder from there - you'll probably get some more useful error messages.

Sounds like same problem I had; the program's author provided me with a solution in the gpodder announce thread. Needed extra dep. file. Also note new .7 version.

Wow, OK - so it DOES launch through Terminal. Now how do I make it so that I can launch it via the icon?

*ahem*

gPodder (old, 0.8-based version)

* Description: Gpodder Podcasting Client
* Install: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=170
* Garage: https://garage.maemo.org/projects/gpodder/
* Homepage: http://gpodder.berlios.de/
* Notes: 'YOU MUST DO THIS FOR GPODDER TO WORK 'Gpodder would not launch with the gpodder_loader wrapper script that it was using for the icon in the menu, so I edited /usr/share/applications/hildon/gpodder.desktop and changed "Exec=/usr/bin/gpodder_loader" to "Exec=/usr/bin/gpodder" and it works now! Also, you will need to install wget (which also works just fine in OS2008) first as well as python. Wget can be found on the gpodder install link above.

It's in the wiki.

Yes, I did see that, thanks! I just have no clue about how to edit that script. Is it done through terminal? If so, how?

Don't forget, I'm new - be gentle

Yes, the new version of gPodder should start directly from the icon, apart from many other improvements upon the old version
