Newb here, just curious about GPS.

I know using the n810's built-in GPS with wayfinder has a cost per 3 years, it seems a little much to me personally.

I'm currently debating getting an n800 and was just curious about exactly how the GPS would work.

I've seen posts about bluetooth GPS recievers and using maemo-mapper.

Using this method, would it require a form of subscription, or would you just need to purchase the reciever and go?

I'm a newb about this, I know nothing about GPS really

The GPS is free, the program is not.

For example, you can use the N810's GPS with another program such as Maemo Mapper or roadmap for free.

Or, you can use a Bluetooth GPS with a N800 or N810 with wayfinder for $$$.

If you don't use wayfinder, its free... You don't need wayfinder to use the GPS. However, the GPS on the N810 is not that good, so don't buy it just for the GPS.

Maemo Mapper will work with the separate GPS receiver, there are no charges for maps and Maemo Mapper provides numerious features. Check the HowTo at http://FragosTech.com/MaemoMapper there's a lot of information there.
