"The first 50 apps, to be released in the next two months, will run on Nokia’s Symbian operating system, which powers several of its existing line of phones. Polar will also develop apps for the MeeGo platform."

http://www.polarmobile.com/news-release/3580/

"The apps will be made available to consumers of Nokia’s Symbian smartphones, the recently announced Nokia N9 and future Nokia with Windows Phone devices."

Many of the 300 media brands for which Polar will develop apps as part of the Nokia deal are already existing customers
...
Among the customers involved in the Nokia deal are Wired U.K., Shanghai Daily and The Globe and Mail.

so, a bunch of junk apps that let you browse stuff from a web site without a web browser. great.

it's about perception. you could apply the "junk Apps" to ios and android easily. but it doesn't stick because the general public's perception is there's choice. i used to run a small video shop in spain and we had sweets and bars etc. not lots but enough. the owner didn't want to buy much, just 4 different types of bars and some drinks because they sold quicker then the other stuff. i bought them instead because people want choice, they may not want the other stuff but they want the option of saying no to it. if you give people choice they will feel more in control and more likely to return because of the perception of choice.

no problem. You can apply that to many different situations. We know basic human behavior in a particular environment. I think we've all done this or seen it where we prefer some shop because they have a better choice or hear people saying "they have a better/wider choice" we all want choice and power and control over our own decisions and actions. Companies know this so they try and direct your choices so all roads still lead to them.

It's cool to have an "App" and when people are bored they download the latest "app" even thought they can use their pc or play the game properly on their pc or console, it's cool to do it on a phone. i'm all for 1000's of crapware up there if it makes people feel better about their choice, if it means more users = more developers = more quality programs/games etc for that system.
