Hello,

I just received my N900 and here is my first issue .

SFR (French provider owned by Vodafone) proxify all HTTP request and filters on the user agent (not to allow people to use their computer as a modem...)...
N900 User agent present Mozilla, so the request are filtered. When I modifyed the user agent via "about:config" , this is only activated during the session. As soon as I shutdown the browser and launch it again, the user agent is reset to the factory one.

What could I do ?

in
~/.mozilla/firefox/PROFILE_ID.default/prefs.js

modify or add to taste:
user_pref("general.useragent.extra.firefox", "Firefox/4.0.0");

Or the alternative is to wait the 17th of December & see if a proper 3G provider will come to the French market...

Aha ! Typical French privilege ! Promotional introductory price of 649€ (980$) instead of 749€ (1,130$) ! Great bargain ! Get 'em while they last !

Although I do seem to remember that 649€ was the announced price for France from the very start, and already a world record :-)

you should be able to bypass proxy by using mobile apn instead of wap.

they usually use novarra to transcode web content for fauture phones

update, it looks like i misread but if you are using wap apn try internet apn anyway

I may be mistaken but I believe they are still calling the browser MicroB.
so the file to edit is:
/home/user/.mozilla/microb/prefs.js

However, I can't get that to stick.
Thus see: http://browser-extras.garage.maemo.org/news/8/
Open this in the Application Manager http://browser-extras.garage.maemo.o...itcher.install (add the repo, then install the add-on)
Close any search toolbar widgets running, close the browser 2-3 times.
Then navigate to chrome://useragentswitcher/content/config.html

And a good list of user agents is at http://useragentstrings.com
perhaps pretend to be a iphone? You might have to play with it depending on what your cellular ISP allows.
