Good to see Purism is still making money ... for refunds.
And for a
hot from the minute you power on until the battery dies, even with the screen off
Librem 5.

No surprise:
The battery is constantly dead, and the phone is never ready for me when I want to use it. It requires babysitting just to charge and keep charged.
Now, Purism
needs funding to build the OS.

Software rendering mode apparently (the desktop swipe looks very painful), but definitely working at least as well as PureOS

I wondered why I did not see any reports of Dogwood recipients on the net.
Well, Purism has silently adapted the planned shipping dates ("due to Coronavirus outbreak"): https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-shipping-announcement/
- Dogwood is now scheduled for "End of April 2020"
- Evergreen is now scheduled for "Mid August"

Depending on final specs, I might go for the Fir.

Just got an update from Purism. Well, it's more of a promise of an update on my Evergreen . . . I think I'm getting Evergreen:

As far as Evergreen and Librem 5 USA shipping dates go, while there are
parts of that process that are running in parallel to Dogwood, there are
other parts (such as molds and FCC/CE testing on the final mass-produced
PCB) which must wait until after the final Dogwood phones have arrived
and have been thoroughly evaluated. Before we commit to a revised
shipping date for Evergreen and Librem 5 USA, we’d like a few more weeks
to complete the evaluation of the final Dogwood phones.
At first I was confused by the email, because I'd forgotten about Purism and my order. Partly because it's been so long and partly because of the . . . "unpleasantness".

Does it sound less confusing after a day or two?

What you quoted sounds to me like they're just trying to minimise the damage at this point... not outright admitting failure, but making it clear that one shouldn't expect too much.

Well, it's still a pretty vague message, but later the same day I remembered that at some point in the before-times I had ordered something called a "Librem 5". What was that? 5 years ago?

But as to your analysis, they're definitely trying -- as you suggest -- to "manage expectations."

you'll get it just in time for Phone Camera Competition June 2030. And subject will be Grey hair or what's left of it.
