I rather not play with my balls, I have people do them for me.
Anyone care to volunteer?

So.. I think everyone here has come to the same conclusion: there will never be another N900!

So to get more life out of the device, I think it could be worth doing if:
1. TI, confirms the newer TI chip would work with S/W updates (lower power etc).
2. If yes, see who's interested.
3. Then find someone with the equipment and skill to do it.
4. source the newer chips
5. Pool in some money for a second hand or refurbished N900 as a test.
6. if test worked, Pay and send it away

I'm not sure how much it would cost, I'm sure it would be under $200USD??

As time gets on, this question will become more important!

Since we only need more ram (and optionally more OneNand flash), why instead to try to use an OMAP 3630, not more simple try to replace PoP slice and still use an OMAP 3430 ?

I have seen some companies that sell TI PoP compatible chip with ram up to 2GB (and SLC Nand up to 4GB).
Furthermore there are even some motorola's and palm's old phones which still use Omap 3430 but with 512MB ram.

Of course it is always an hard (or for someone impossible) task, but there aren't the problems related to soc family change

Sure, but why reviving a (ridicoulous) dead thread that was created 3 years ago?

Do you prefer a new thread ?

Latest posts are about 8 months ago, not so old.

I apologise, it came off a bit offensive. No harm intended. You're right about the last post.

It wouldn't work, and I think the reason why has been justified many times in this thread already.

And if I could pick ONE upgrade, it would be an usb port that doesn't fall off after a few months.. because other than that I love the n900 how it is

Please explain why.
I don't see in this thread something about "changing only PoP slice".

I don't say that "it works at 100%" but I don't see so much problems apart from being probably not economically do that.

How is this processor designed for Nokia? Is it not a standard package?

I'd answer them Nokia company has sent me already:

See, here is email from Mr Elop that is boss. We are good friend for play golf and visit private club in Richmond. I have made promise to buy WP8 Lumia I can give to lady afterward and he give me good TX Pop slice for old N900 and keep secret.

I probably would scrape together and pay 1000 in some world currency to have 1GB RAM upgrade.

If you'd compare it with the price of a 16GB set for your Macbook (always out of mem too) It is still cheap for comparable performance upgrade.
