They put up a post today that they will be at FOSDEM showing off the NC_1 this year, so maybe i'll get a chance to see for myself.

I think what they are promising is much more realistic than whatever crazy ideas Turing were pushing in the past. But they are a new company without a history to judge, so perhaps some caution is advised.

One obvious difference is, you will be able to meet whoever is behind Necunos at Fosdem this year.
EDIT, (as r0kk3rz posted while i had the edit tab open)

Anyway, before shedding that amount of money, i would contact them and ask for a phone number and time for a personal consultation.

Met the necuno guys last night at the FOSDEM beer event. Its cool to see that the team contains some TMO people you might recognise.

I asked them about the community partnerships with nemo, maemo, luneos et al, and they said they are giving devices to these projects for free to give them some proper linux hardware to build their operating systems upon.

This is not entirely selfless, Necuno wants to demonstrate many different systems running on the device so that potential customers a starting point that makes sense to them.

They should have a device around a FOSDEM today, so i'll try and get a hands on and maybe a few pictures to share

Now that news has me believing they aren't just randomly stating a whack of os's that will run on their device.
Good news that.

I think Necunos' post serves the purpose of keeping those who are interested in the NC_1 in the loop (also the purpose of this thread, hence my post). It's also nice to have reassurance of their commitment to their goal of providing a truly free and open mobile device.

I also think it's unfair to compare this to Jolla's use of the word "soon", which has come to mean "an indefinite duration". Necunos have explained the reasons for the delay and stated they estimate to have the NC_1 ready for shipping in summer 2019. There is much more clarity here in my opinion.

This is a small startup communicating openly and trying to do the right thing. Let's try to leave out snarky "soon" comments.

I think I know why I started this thread.
But I am a bit disappointed in this project, although I hope the best

There are plenty of other ways to express disappointment. Posting snide remarks is not helpful.
