I've been using gpe-todo for this, but the widget could use some fixes, like having a transparent background and not being very big when it doesn't have things to show.

ya but it doesnt work with nokia messaging which is absolutely ******ed.

Take a look at EasyList,
It's not a widget, but it's really fast and easy
(For todo lists)

I'd like something that integrates with Calendar, a sort of Calendar Home Widget showing activities in default N900 Calendar.
