You can't even begin thinking about a self-sustaining ecosystem until we have transactions / tipping in the app store, and have had it for some time. Unfortunately, a huge amount of time and goodwill will have evaporated by the time it appears. Alien Dalvik (or other ACL) is absolutely mandatory for the vast majority of users.

Besides, it's not just apps we're missing, there's still very basic functionality missing (not even on the level of cal/cardav). The browser STILL can't log in to browser based wifi (you have to use a 3rd party browser), which is just hilariously bad and tends to suggest that Jolla employees barely use Sailfish outside their offices. Maybe when Jolla finally feel ready to fix stuff like this, people might be more willing to use it as a primary OS and even develop for it.

Yes there are issues waiting to be fixed in the Jolla ecosystem. But things are not that bad. Ok, some pieces of software are missing, but I can live with that.

Last week, I exchanged some mails with a Jolla dev to help them to fix a bug around Google contacts sync. And finally, the bug is fixed.

Give me just one other manufacturer you can do the same thing with ! Of course, others may not have the same basics bugs, but they're small, I have no doubt they're doing their best, and it's pretty good imho.

Could you send a mail to that Dev to fix Exchange so you dont need to delete account when changing settings like password?

If this is a problem for you can't you do it yourself?
I'd imagine you can best describe your own bugs rather than rely on 3rd parties to pass the message...

I do not know Dave's background so I cannot answer for him but based on other people's reports and my own experience, I can assume the following:

- So many bug reports sent to Jolla via the "official" channels have gone down the black hole with no reaction whatsoever that people have given up on those channels.
- Here is someone who claims to have a direct link to someone inside Jolla, thus with a hope to bypass those useless channels and actually get some reaction.
- Why not seize the opportunity?

While Jolla has publicly announced that they check this forum in addition to IRC and the dev mailing list, know that the official way of reporting issues is TJC. So, if you don't do it there, then you have to wait patiently, but most importantly you lose the right to complain about Jolla being slow at implementing xyz.

A lot of issues in TJC have been addressed - I personally raised a few and most if not all of them are already fixed. Of course YMMV and this depends on the complexity of the request, but TJC does work. I don't know that the competition has anything similar to be honest, and that's one of the reasons I don't get another phone.

Guys, I won't give this dev email, just because I don't think it's the right thing to do.

In my specific case, he just answered on a TJC report, asking for some logs, then he sent me an email asking for a bit of help to diagnose, which I did with pleasure.

there is, they can't redistribute the binaries, hence why they can't create a complete image to "flash".

My idea is that the flasher tool pulls the binaries from the device itself and then proceeds to build an image and flash it.
