At least in my case, it is caused by the old .opera/ds/1_plugins file. Copying it over the new .opera/ds, where it doesn't exists by default, triggers the bug.
It just contains 1 byte with the value 0x01
If you are affected by this bug, try deleting this file.

It has now become one of the best mobile browser, renders the web pages very close like MicroB. One thing missing Flash support. CMON OPERA TEAM BRING IT ON.

But Many thanks for this fantastic update, it has without doubt become my default browser.

Works like a charm, blazing fast and fantastic UI.

I have to agree that only missing feature is Flash support. Otherwise It finally seems better than Micro B.

I had the black screen problem. I deleted the ~/.opera directory and it worked fine after that.

Warning: this deletes all bookmarks, settings, saved passwords, etc.

For N8x0 users: you may need the Opera catalog enabled to see the update.

Web address: http://deb.opera.com/maemo
Components: non-free

The updated version appeared in my Application Manager this morning. I also have Extras-Devel enabled. If you don't see the update, those might help.

EDIT: Looking at the opera directory, it looks like I'm wrong about the Opera Catalog. It must be in Extras-Devel.

Removing ~/.opera/ds/1_plugins solved the black screen issue.
