Democracy is great but not faultless. Not only does it give an opportunity for idiots to ruin others' lives, it also inherently bears seeds of its own destruction. Many totalitarian regimes of the 20th century were installed through a democratic process.
Things that are subject to an opinion are OK to resolve by a public vote. Things that require an expert knowledge are not.
Just say you should be carful when judging knowledge.
