Did you press and hold the 'U' key while connecting the phone for flashing? You can read the whole process here.

Is this windows or linux or macosx, you are trying to flash from? Why are you trying to flash anyway? Don't get me wrong, but, please, as this is your problem, be a little bit more verbose. Those one-liners are not really meaningful on the other end of the internet.

There are a couple of driver problems reported when flashing the firmware or the EMMC. Success still depends on 32-bit or 64-bit Win7.

You could try to repair/check the filesystem from the X-Terminal application, you need rootsh installed for that to work
Code:
sudo gainroot
umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
There might be an error here, since the partition is not mounted.
Code:
fsck -af /dev/mmcblk0p1
mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /home/user/MyDocs
There might be more necessary to try to repair the partition, but that is for starters.

Please use copy and paste for those commands, as each typo will cause the commands to fail.

Is this
sudo gainroot not found
and you cannot install anything in Hildon Application Manager?
Then to get some free space remove some of your widgets from the desktop and uninstall some applications from the phone. If this still does not free enough space to install rootsh, please attach the file debug.txt from this commands to your post
Code:
df -h > /home/user/MyDocs/debug.txt
du -kx / | sort -n | tail -n 20 >> /home/user/MyDocs/debug.txt
mount >> /home/user/MyDocs/debug.txt
This creates the file debug.txt in your MyDocs folder, you might access it with the HildonFileManager's N900 Folder.
